How HEIC to JPG Works
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container). It is an excellent format — roughly half the size of JPG at the same quality — but Windows, most Android phones, older photo software and a great many websites still cannot open it. Converting to JPG makes a photo universally readable.
Your photos never leave your device. This matters more here than with almost any other converter. HEIC files are personal photographs, and they carry EXIF metadata including the exact GPS coordinates and timestamp of where the picture was taken. Every other online HEIC converter uploads that to a server. This one decodes the image inside your browser tab using a WebAssembly build of libheif — nothing is transmitted, and there is no size limit or daily cap.
Batch conversion. Select as many photos as you like. One file downloads directly; several are packaged into a ZIP.
Choosing a format. Pick JPG for sharing, printing and maximum compatibility. Pick PNG if you need lossless quality for editing. Pick WEBP for the web, where it gives the smallest files at equivalent quality.
Quality setting. 90% is visually indistinguishable from the original for almost all photographs. Lower it towards 70% when you need smaller files for email or upload limits.
Stopping your iPhone making HEICs in the first place: Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible. New photos are then captured as JPG.
