How PDF to Word Works
This tool produces a genuine .docx file — a proper Office Open XML document that Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all open natively, with no format warnings.
How it works. Your PDF's text is read with its position on the page, so lines are rebuilt in reading order instead of arriving as scrambled fragments. Text noticeably larger than the body copy is marked as a Heading 1, so the document keeps a usable outline you can navigate and restyle.
What carries over. Text, reading order, paragraph breaks and heading structure. Images, columns, tables and exact fonts are not reproduced — faithfully rebuilding a fixed page layout as a reflowable Word document is not something any converter does perfectly, and we would rather give you clean editable text than a tangle of positioned text boxes.
Scanned PDFs. A scan is a picture of text and contains no text layer at all. Run it through OCR PDF first — that adds a real text layer, and the result converts normally.
Privacy. Everything happens inside this browser tab. Your document is never uploaded, so there is no size limit and no queue.
Frequently asked questions
Is the output a real Word document?
Yes. It produces a genuine .docx file in Office Open XML format, which Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages all open natively with no compatibility warning.
What gets preserved in the conversion?
Text, reading order, paragraph breaks and heading structure. Text noticeably larger than the body copy is marked as Heading 1, so the document keeps a usable outline.
Why are images and tables missing?
A PDF is a fixed page description, while a Word file is reflowable text. Rebuilding one as the other perfectly is not something any converter achieves. This tool gives you clean, editable text rather than a tangle of positioned text boxes that are painful to edit.
It produced an empty document — why?
Your PDF is almost certainly a scan, which is a picture of text containing no text layer. Run it through the OCR PDF tool first, then convert the searchable PDF it produces.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool here runs inside your browser tab using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed on your own device, and the result is handed straight back to you. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and nothing is deleted afterwards because nothing ever arrived.
