About PDF/A and What This Tool Does
What this tool does. It rebuilds your PDF with normalised document metadata — title, creation and modification dates — and writes it back with a clean, uncompressed object structure. That makes the file more predictable for archival systems and document-management software to index.
What it does not do, stated plainly. This does not produce a validated PDF/A-1b file. True PDF/A conformance requires every font to be embedded, an ICC output intent describing the colour space, and XMP metadata declaring the conformance level. Those cannot currently be produced reliably inside a browser, and we would rather tell you that than hand you a file that fails validation at the moment you need it to pass.
If you need certified PDF/A — for a court filing, a records retention policy, or an ISO 19005 requirement — use a desktop tool such as Adobe Acrobat, Ghostscript, or veraPDF to convert and then validate the result.
Privacy. Your document is processed entirely in this browser tab and is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Does this produce a validated PDF/A file?
No, and we would rather say so clearly. True PDF/A conformance requires every font to be embedded, an ICC output intent describing the colour space, and XMP metadata declaring the conformance level. Those cannot currently be produced reliably inside a browser.
What does this tool actually do?
It rebuilds your PDF with normalised document metadata — title, creation and modification dates — and a clean, predictable object structure, which helps archival and document-management systems index the file correctly.
What should I use if I need certified PDF/A?
For a court filing, records-retention policy or ISO 19005 requirement, use a desktop tool such as Adobe Acrobat, Ghostscript or veraPDF, which can both convert and then validate the result.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Every tool here runs inside your browser tab using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into memory, processed on your own device, and the result is handed straight back to you. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, and nothing is deleted afterwards because nothing ever arrived.
